Traditional bridal/festive 'göynek' (underdress) from the Türkmen village of Durabeyler, near Dursunbey (80 km east of Balıkesir), ca. 1925-1950.
Hand spun, handwoven cotton; the bottom is lavishly adorned with cotton embroidery - stylized flowers & square motifs.
Embroidery threads are hand dyed in natural indigo & a deep red.
The dress is entirely sewn with hand stitches without any use of sewing machine & is constructed out of lean panels of thick hand woven cotton.
The shape is A-Line featuring square gussets under the sleeves.
