Selcan Turkish Robe
Festive Women’s gown, named ‘üçetek’ (or : üç peş’)
Bulgaria, 1960's
(The Turkish Alevi villages in the Ruen district - northern part of the Burgas province, Bulgaria)
Hand spun, handwoven cotton.
The robe is made in a non fuss, classic style with a gusset
featuring a V neck that is hand-hemmed.
The front is plain while the entire back hemline is lavishly adorned with cotton embroidery - stylized flowers & tassels.
Embroidery threads are hand dyed in natural indigo & a deep red.
The robe is entirely sewn with hand stitches without any use of sewing machine & is constructed out of lean panels of thick hand woven cotton.
